Summer Season (part 1)

The summer seems to be flying by!

We can't beleive it but Uncle Trav has graduated from the esteemed Raleigh Charter High School and will be heading to Georgia Tech at the end of the summer.  We finally had a chance to get up to Maryland for the first time since February and had a wonderful visit with family and friends.  We spent a good bit of time in Baltimore with Little and Kevin and had a great time seeing all of Annie's Unlces, Aunts, and cousins.  Paco had a chance to go check out the Nationals play the Orioles in the new  stadium on the Anacositia River in DC.  Fourth of July weekend Annie invited several friends (and their parents) over for an impromtu BBQ - a great time was had by all.  We followed that up with a trip to the Annual Eno River Festival in Durham on the 5th.

Annie continues to gain new skills and words everyday!  She particularly enjoys counting (to two, sometimes three), the alphabet (AB-D), playing with kids, going to the park, talking on the phone, swimming at the pool, and most anything outside.  She is able to have surprisingly interesting conversations about current events (for example "Gracie. Run. Outside." or "Pop-o. Grana. Work. Home.").  Oh. Yeah.  Yo Gabba Gabba is a constant request.  But, we have to admit, it's a pretty good show with some rockin' tunes.

Happy St. Patrick's (Pop-o's) Day!

For the first time in about seven years I, Pop-o, didn't spend the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day, freezing on Pratt Street, watching the Baltimore St. Patrick's Day Parade go by!   Definitely missed seeing MC and Maggie dance in the parade, it was a tradition for Bon and me.  Annie spent her first St. Patrick's Day celebration last year with the whole Cullom/Davis/Ruddy clan in the cold off the Inner Harbor.

(There isn't necessarily anything Irish about any of the images I have posted today except for some of the ancestors and namesakes of many of the people in them.)

Annie, Bonny, and I are all doing very well and are enjoying ourselves as we prepare to spend our first spring back in North Carolina.  Annie's favorite songs are currently the Alphabet Song (ABCD...), Itsy-Bitsy Spider, and Ring-Around-The-Rosy (taught to her by her very good and slightly older friend, Wade).  She plays a mean rattle, claps and dances as I play them on the Guitar for her.

She's working on new skills such as speed walking (ie, almost running), climbing, and sliding; has become obsessed with stickers (or "ticks" as she likes to say); loves to color and "write her ABC's"; and likes to "read" to the animals...which reminds me, we have a new four-footed friend named Penelope.  See if you can spot her (hint: she's not a reptile, Grana already had those)!

They Came, We Saw, They/We Went

Grandmother and Pops went to Maryland for a special visit, so we tagged along...Happy Birthday, Grandmother!!  We had a very lovely visit (see picture album at right) and Annie loves her silly, and sometimes loud, family.

And as an added bonus we got to see our future President, Barack Obama, speak to approximately 25,000 Marylanders at the home of the Terrapins!

A Very Sesame Christmas

When Annie turned one we introduced her to the television through the magic of Sesame Street.  Needless to say, it was the start of a love affair (with Big Bird, Grover, Cookie Monster, Ocscar and Count Von Count, especially).  This Christmas paid homage to the show that has been teaching children to love letters, numbers and lessons since 1969.  From Mama and Popo she received Big Bird's BIG Book filled with "counting, colors, country, city, etc"; from Grana and Trav, two of the three Sesame Street "Old School" DVD sets which feature episodes from the shows earliest seasons (pre Telly, Elmo and Abby); and most surprisingly and delightfully, from Grandmother and Pops, Annie was sent (all the way from the Mojave desert) a one-of-a-kind needlepoint tapestry of a Sesame Street scene she began 32 years ago(!) for Pop-o.

ONE is the Magic Number

Annie hit the big O-N-E and she can do LOTS of things!

The day before her first birthday (October 12) she decided to crawl (or "scootch" = 1 knee + 1 foot + 2 hands) and take her first (and only) solo steps!  Now she's almost fully mobile.  She's not too sure about walking hands-free but she loves to use her walking skills to push her new birthday buggy and she's quite the master cruiser.  Her scootch has also transformed into a full-blown crawl and can she can now span wide distances to most anywhere (preferably to where her Mama is).

Annie can also pant like a dog, meow like a cat, moo like a cow, sniff flowers, brush her teeth and hair, take off her diaper, and make the signs for fish, bed, milk ("munch"), eat, and finished.  And she tries very hard to say the word balloon!  At this time it seems her favorite things to do are point (with her very pointy finger), wave hello/goodbye, read books, play Pop-o's guitar, dance, dance, dance!, pet the cats and play tug with Gracie the dog.

Oh what fun it is to be ONE!
